Platypus Cleaning Kit

Handy cleaning tool from Platypus to keep your hose and reservoir clean and lengthen the life of your hydration kit. It's also useful for keeping the hose of your TrailShot Microfilter clean too.

How to use it:

Strangely the cleaning kit doesn't come with instructions. So here is what I do when mine needs to be cleaned. You can choose this method or another which suits you.

Rather than cleaning my Platypus water bladder and hose with soapy water or bleach and water solutions, I use a combination of water, freshly squeezed lemon juice and some baking soda so I know if I don't manage to rinse it thoroughly enough, at least I'm not ingesting harmful chemicals. I also make up enough cleaning solution to fill my bladder (plenty of recipes online) and save enough to fill the bottom of a cup.

Filling my bladder with my cleaning solution, I attach the hose and whilst over the sink, give it a good shake. I then pinch the mouthpiece to draw water all the way down and out through the mouthpiece.

I leave it resting for about 20 minutes/half an hour with the mouthpiece in the remaining solution I left in the cup.

Then I use the cleaning kit brushes to scrub out the interior, the brush on the wire for the hose, the bigger one for the bladder itself. I follow this by lots and lots of rinsing with warm water.

Drying is key and if you dry your bladder and hose properly after each use, you will get a lot longer out of it. Choose somewhere dry but not too hot or humid. Get your bladder to open as much as possible so that air can circulate, likewise with the hose.
