    The Western Way is the most popular long distance walking route in the West of Ireland. It commences in Oughterard on the shores of Lough Corrib in Co.Galway, traverses Connemara and Mayo to finish on the Mayo/ Sligo border near Bunnyconnellan, a distance of 235 kilometres. This guidebook deals with the southern and most popular part of the walk from Oughterard to Westport in Co.Mayo. This part of the route is 101 kilometres (63 miles) in length and ascends some 1800 metres.
